International Women’s Day

In 2010 I interviewed Libyan women for a series with Chicago Public Radio. During that time I met strong, independent and active Libyan women. That was the beginning of my journey to understand what it means to identify, empathize and sympathize with Libyan women. Later with Libyan Women’s Platform for Peace, Libya Al Ahrar and various interactions with Libyan women in the private and public sphere I attempted to make peace with my identity as a Libyan American. On International Women’s Day I hope Libyan women can be acknowledged as they are far too often sidelined. Here’s to all the strong women around the world.
